Wednesday Homework, THE PROJECT

I hope you enjoyed the last day of summer in autumn today!  I went for a long walk and stopped in a few shops.  As a matter of fact, I  bought a smart phone, as my old phone finally died.  (We'll have a moment of silence in class tomorrow.)  Sorry if this post isn't as early as it could be.

We covered three Focus points today: 2, 3, and 4.  Accordingly, our homework will be Exercise 2 (page 217), Exercise 4 (page 220), and Exercises 6 and 7 on pages 222-3.

Thanks, Rawan, for doing the homework last night!  You're amazing!

Tomorrow, let's make another presentation schedule and talk about the project!

For the project, I will ask you to:

  1. Find an article you WANT to read, think is interesting, or may help you in your future.
  2. Read it carefully and prepare questions for me.  Be ready to provide a copy for me or send me a link so I can help you with it.
  3. Prepare a 2 page essay that summarizes the article and includes your conclusion about the topic.
  4. Prepare a presentation that summarizes the article and your views of it.
As you have to do an essay and presentation about every other week, it's really not much more work for you!  In fact, you can combine a lot of your work by doing an essay and presentation about the same topic!  This will give you more experience and confidence in reading, research, writing, speaking, and summarizing.  I encourage you to HAVE FUN doing this.  Find a topic you would read about without being asked to.  What do you like to read about in your language?  For the career-minded among you, you can read about your specific field.  For those you have strong interests, write and speak about something you think is really cool.  If you can't find a topic, ask yourself: what kind of presentation would I want to see?  What type of reading assignment would excite me if I found it in our textbook?  What is your dream topic?

Enjoy!
